Heparin from Carmeda is not contaminated
In response to the Medtronic News Release dated May 7, 2008 regarding a voluntary and precautionary recall of selected products featuring the Carmeda® BioActive Surface, Carmeda today is providing the following clarification.
The Medtronic products recalled were not coated by Carmeda and do not contain heparin supplied by Carmeda. Medtronic manufactures their own Carmeda-coated products under a license from Carmeda. The heparin used by Carmeda on all other Carmeda BioActive Surface (CBAS®) products is not contaminated with oversulfated chondroitin sulfate. This has been confirmed using FDA endorsed test methods.
Carmeda only uses heparin sourced from North America and does not use any heparin sourced from
China.
